Our Cat Family

than the love of a cat?”

Abigail

Cream Burmese
|
Abby was my
baby. She was, and still is, the undisputed queen of her little
empire. Sadly, Abigail was run over by a 4x4 outside our front door
at 8am on Saturday 18th June 2005. We live in such a quiet place
it’s almost unbelievable. She was coming up for nine years old.
Abigail was a grand servant to me and I owe her everything. Without
her I would never have begun this business. She inspired me to breed
wonderful kittens at a reasonable price, for the pleasure of others. I still miss her
terribly and no cat will ever take her place but I believe that I
will, indeed, see her again.
Thank
you Abby for this wonderful legacy.
Rest in
peace till we meet again.

Emily

Asian Tortie
|
Emily is the first daughter of Abigail. She is just 7 years old and
has only three legs. She lost her front leg in a fight with a fox
when she was 3 years old and heavily pregnant. She went on to give
birth to 5 beautiful healthy kittens despite her amputation and four
days in hospital. She has never moaned about her lot and was spayed
to give her a nice quiet cat life. She divides her time between
exploring on Yateley Common, where we live, and my bed, the
privilege she has been granted because of her ‘special status’.
Emily is an Asian and has a lovely sweet nature. She hasn’t a bad
thought in her head. We have to shoo her back home sometimes as she
would follow us constantly for walks with the dogs. In the past if
she has continued to walk, we have had to alternate between carrying her and putting her down
to walk as she gets out of puff (I know how
she feels!) and starts panting, which is very disconcerting in a
cat. However, I have to say she is very 'bloody-minded' and we have
to lock her up sometimes to make sure she doesn't come with us, else
she sneaks through the undergrowth and pops out half a mile into the
walk. Then what do we do? One good thing about the winter coming on,
Emily will be more likely to default to my bedroom than the common!
God bless her determination. |

Lydia

Lilac Tortie
Burmese |
Lydia was the last lilac
Tortie I bred from my gentle Abigail. I had
wanted a lilac Tortie for three litters and eventually along came
Lydia. She was one of six of the last litter of Abby's. She is one
of the line up on Abigail's portrait...but don't ask me which
one! Abby produced three lilac Tortie girls and three cream boys
from which I could take my pick. She must have known I wanted one of
each.
Lydia has a gentle
nature like her mum. There's not a bad thought in her head.
She
is just over a year old and we will start breeding with her when she
is about 2 years old. She will continue the lovely line that Abby
gave to us all. |

William

Cream
Burmese |
William is just
over a year old and was born to Abigail in her very last litter. We
at present regard him as our 'stud-in-training'. However, he appears
to be more consistently interested in his warm bed and what is going
into his stomach! We have put him with two seasoned queens but the
queen sits and calls and he just lies there snoring! Hopeless!! He
is, however, a lovely boy and is only young yet. We are hoping he
will get the hang of it by the new year.
William is very affectionate, as Burmese often are, and he is what
our vet calls, 'a big girl's blouse'! He is another one who
regularly wants to come walking with the dogs and he can do a full
one mile walk, running up the available trees at the sight of any
strange dog. He is beginning to come to his name, although Willy
does work better than William! Hopefully there will be lots of
little Williams around once he realises what a delight living in a
harem can be!

Florence

Chinchilla
Persian |
Florence came to live
with us when she was quite young. I wouldn't normally have chosen a
Persian because of the responsibility of the grooming. However,
Florence was left with us and we didn't have very much option. We
find the Persian nature very sweet and wouldn't part with Florence
for anything. She doesn't have a tail now. It had to be amputated a
couple of years ago. However, she still gives us lovely Tiffannie
kittens. Florence is like Beatrice in that she only seems to come
into season once a year and has very small litters of two or three.
The Chinchillas look very fierce, like the one in Stuart Little, but
they are not fierce at all. They are actually quite intelligent,
hardy cats and we love the contrast with our other cats. |

Beatrice with son, Darius

Birmans |
Bea (blue Tortie point) is so beautiful but never appears to have much up-top!
She is what I would call 'enchanting' and 'blonde' (with
apologies to all those blonde ladies out there). She is lovely to
cuddle and as a semi-longhair doesn't need much grooming, unlike a
Persian type cat. I don't think I have ever felt a claw in me or a
scratch from Bea, she is just so gentle. She has lovely kittens when
put with a Burmese boy. She has had four small litters and only
appears to come into season once a year...so she never overdoes
anything! Here she is with one of her previous offspring, a
blue boy, Olibea-Darius.

Bronte
& Beth

Siamese & Burmese |
Bronte is a chocolate
point Siamese and Bethany a blue Tortie Burmese. As you can
see, they enjoy each other's company.
However, Bethany loves
her comfort more and is certainly not going to give way to Bronte
for her comfy place.

Bethany

Blue Tortie
Burmese |
Beth (also pictured
above) is a beautiful, blue Tortie Burmese. She has a
wonderful inner beauty. She seems to know when something is wrong
with either myself or Hannah. She is very quiet for a Burmese.
When she was a kitten she was brought up in a cage. I didn't buy her
as I didn't want a Burmese that was scared and with no social
graces. However, I couldn't forget her and the next week went back
and brought her home. It took a lot of effort just stroking her
gently and gaining her trust. However, from a 'rabbit in the
headlights' demeanour she has grown into a beautiful and gentle
Burmese mother. The months of work have been heavily rewarded and
she has lovely babies. She is just the best mum in the business.
She will feed any kitten in sight and with all is most diligent. |

Tilly

Burmese Cross |
Tilly was not bred by us, she came to us when
she was about 8 months old. Her mum was a brown Burmese and her
father had been ‘just passing’. She settled well here with all the
other animals and although now retired, gave us a couple of litters
of kittens which were three quarter Burmese. She has her own
special place for her bed and food … by her own choice she 'lives'
in the porch! This gives her quick access to the common where she
frequently comes dog walking with us, much to the amusement of our
neighbours!
